Custom Handmade Baby Gift for best friend?

My best freind is about to be a father. I want to make his baby a Heirloom gift- something to keep through the years and hand down, someday telling his child "Your uncle made this for you before you were even born. Its very special." I’m pretty handy so I thought something like a Wooden Mobile, Maybe Rocking Horse, etc. Any ideas? Something that a guy can give a guy- not something soft a blanket.
