When trying to decide what color to paint the guest room, I went to the quilt/fabric store and looked for fabric that I liked first. The “sunflower” fabric is what “hit” me! So the paint color was chosen from that fabric. Over the past few months, I’ve bought different fat quarters that would compliment the fabric, not knowing what I was going to make. Now I’ve found the perfect quilt pattern in the calendar my granddaughter gave me for Christmas. I’m having so much fun putting this together!!! Especially with my new sewing machine! I’m in heaven!!!!

Quilting for kids with cancer

Financial Assistant Sherry Nguyen and some of her colleagues from Commonwealth Medicine’s Disability Evaluation Services wanted to give back to the community while enjoying each other’s company. So they started crafting handmade quilts for the guests of Sherry’s House, a Ronald McDonald House-type facility that provides no-cost lodging for child cancer patients, their families and caregivers. Hear Nguyen talk about the project in this video.

We serve local homeless shelters, school programs, and hospitals by supplying blankets, hats, scarves, etc. to those who truly need them. Come find out how you and your craft can help. Katie Helke Dokshine is a book publisher by day, knitter and quilter by night. She started Knit for Boston a little over a year ago when she realized she had far too many knitted scarves to ever use herself. Around the world folks have been putting together Ignite nights to show their answers. igniteshow.com

A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to San Gil, Colombia by TravelPod blogger Ddgfraser titled “Parked at the park” Ddgfraser’s travel blog entry: “How quickly we forgot that getting anywhere in Colombia takes time. Travel involves creeping around mountainsides behind struggling trucks. The slow pace gives opportunity to soak up the mountain and valley landscapes. Compared to wild natural Venezuela with no farmlands the Colombian countryside is like a patchwork quilt with various types of farmland mixed with dense jungles splashed with an array of color from flowering trees and shrubs. Our first day is slow indeed with the border crossing and holdups due to slides. Our memories came rushing back and our prospect for the night seemed far away. In the dark we descended with the parade of vehicles into Pamplona, and suddenly the little town was full to bursting with the backlogged traffic. We took a side road and left with hopes of finding somewhere at the other end of town to spend the night. Nothing! we were tired after our long day and then we found ourselves climbing another mountain leaving Pamplona with no prospect in sight and not prepared to go back and battle a total town traffic jam we kept going. Finally at the top of this mountain , 3500m altitude, we spotted a restaurant/store/posada and pulled in. It was cold and raining up here but this was our spot for the night. After a quick meal we settled in for the night wearing our fleece. Next morning, we
